第七章
潔きは常に汚れより出で、 明るきは毎に晦より生ずる
ー潔常自汚出、明毎従晦生也ー 菜根譚 前集 24項
【菜根譚：明の洪自誠編。前集222条では人との交わり、事治、対応の道を説き、
後集135条では退静閑居の楽しみを論じている】
原文：
糞虫至穢、
変為蝉而飲露於秋風。
腐草無光、
化為蛍而燿釆於夏月。
固知、潔常自汚出、
明毎従晦生也。
書き下し文：
糞虫は至穢なるも、
変じて蝉となりて露を秋風に飲む。
腐草は光なきも、
化して蛍となりて釆を夏月に耀かす。
固知る、潔きは常に汚れより出で、
明るきは毎に晦より生ずるなり。
潔きはつねに汚れより出で、 明るきはつねに晦より生ずる
意解：
堆肥で湧いた「うじ虫」は極めて汚いが、
羽化して蝉になり秋風のなかで露を飲む。
腐草は光はないが、化して蛍になり、
夏の月夜に光彩を輝かす。
もとよりわかる、
潔いものは常に汚れたものから生まれ、
明るいものは毎に暗いものから生まれる。
人は皆、無限の可能性を秘めている。変身する可能性の芽を摘むことの無い様に、
自他ともにありたいものですね。
論語 子罕 第九 23に「後生畏るべし」とある。
人の進歩は、 はかることができない 「後生畏るべし」若いからといって見くびってはいけない、彼等の将来がわれわれの現在に及ばないと誰がいい得よう。という戒めでもある。
